Dry throat is often accompanied by itching or pain in the throat. This condition may be a symptom of a throat or mouth disorder. Two conditions associated with dry throat are laryngitis and dry mouth.
Below are two types of diseases that can cause dryness in your throat.
Laryngitis
This condition most often causes dry throat accompanied by hoarseness and itching. Laryngitis is an inflammation of the vocal cords that occurs due to excessive use of vocal cords or because of an infection.
There are two types of laryngitis that are differentiated based on the duration of symptoms. Among other things, long-term (chronic) laryngitis which is generally caused by cigarette smoke, consuming liquor, allergies, or irritating stomach acid. And short-term (acute) laryngitis is generally caused by a viral infection.
The most common symptom is a dry and painful throat, the voice becomes hoarse, weak, itching that occurs continuously, or a dry cough.
In order to overcome this condition, laryngitis sufferers will usually be given drugs such as corticosteroids or antibiotics (if the cause is bacterial infection) according to the doctor's recommendations. In addition, you can also do some daily treatments such as drinking mineral water, inhaling menthol-containing inhalers, rinsing with warm salt water, consuming mint, and consuming lozenges (lozenges). It is recommended to avoid smoking and rest your voice.
Mouth Dry
Apart from laryngitis, dry mouth can also be a cause of dry throat. Dry mouth occurs because the production of enough saliva or saliva is reduced or none at all. And it usually occurs in those who are dehydrated, nerve damage in the head or neck area, smoking, taking certain drugs, or because they have certain diseases.
Symptoms include continuous thirst, dry mouth, dry throat, wounds in the corners of the mouth, chapped lips, disturbances in the sense of taste, difficulty chewing, sore throat, and the tongue feels rough, dry and red.
To deal with dry mouth problems you can chew sugar-free gum to increase saliva, drink mineral water, keep the humidity in the bedroom so that the airways don't get dry, and breathe through the nose instead of by mouth.
However, if the method doesn't work, you can consult a doctor. Usually the doctor will provide treatment that is tailored to the cause. If caused by medications such as radiotherapy, you will be given pilocarpine.
If it is caused by taking certain drugs, the doctor will usually replace drugs that cause dry mouth or just reduce the dose. If the dry mouth is caused by a blockage in the nose, the doctor will give a decongestant.
A dry throat can indeed make it go awry. Talk is not good, so is swallowing drinks or food. Immediately find out the cause of your dry throat, so you can deal with it in the right way.
